The Henshall Bug was developed by Dr. James Henshall, and is considered to be one of the oldest deerhair patterns.  Dr. Henshall wrote a book on Black Bass in 1881.  This fly was developed sometime after that book was released.  It’s a great fly for beginners insofar as it has a simple tail, (Bucktail), and several bands of spun hair for the body, (white, red, orange, red and white in this case,) followed by spent wings of Bucktail.  It can be tied in a wide variety of color combinations, and even all white, to simulate a large moth.  Although I haven’t tried it, I’ll bet it could be used on our own Hex hatch.
