Recipe For Pope Hair Bug
Hook: Mustad 9052S, #1/0 to #3/0
Tail: Long bucktail, saddle hackle, or marabou, tied on at least ½ inch from the hook bend. Continue wrapping the hook shank with thread. Make tail 2-6 inches long, depending on the hook size.
Body: Use either a preformed foam body or make a cork body. Cut a
groove in the bottom, and hollow out the small end so the body will slip over the hump formed by the tail material. Cut the body in half using the front section. Spin deer body hair onto the hook shank, filling the gap between the tail and the hard popper body. Trim to the contour of the hard body. Hollowing the large or face end, or cutting the face on an angle, makes it pop better. Cork is lighter and floats better, but is not as tough as foam. Glue the body to the hook shank. Paint if using cork.
Eyes: Paint on, or use stick-on eyes
