The Sedgehog
is the invention of U.K. fly fishing author Stan Headley. Looking
like a little hedgehog, but designed to imitate a Caddis (or “Sedge”)
this fly incorporates some fundamental deerhair techniques. Despite
all of the deerhair, the use of seal’s fur as a dubbing tends
to pull the fly into, or under, the surface film if left untreated
with floatant. Once treated, however, this pattern floats high and
long. Rig a Black Buzzer 18 – 24 inches off the rear and fish
it slow.
